Our Community Need

Susan G. Komen for the Cure’s promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to discover the cures. To meet this promise, the Central New Mexico Affiliate relies on the information obtained through the Community Profile process to guide us in the work we must accomplish in our communities. The Community Profile is the assessment process we take on every two years in order to understand the state of breast cancer in our service area.

Our service area encompasses the six counties located in central New Mexico:  Bernalillo, Los Alamos, Sandoval, Santa Fe, Torrance, and Valencia.  The Community Profile is our resource to provide us with the framework for conducting a comprehensive and collaborative effort to identify the disparities in our service area for those needing access to care, assistance with expenses and obtaining treatment. Through the process of conducting our Community Profile, we can determine the state of breast cancer at the local level, establish priorities for improving health, make effective grants and evaluate the impact of public health programs and policies.

Our process included data gathering from various state and government resources, key informant and community surveys and compiling the information into our Community Profile.
